Mahseer Fishing
Tour
6 nights / 7 days
Destinations: Corbett National Park - Riverine Woods

With the crack
of dawn till dusk you are most welcome to stay on the river and fish and
for as long as you feel while hot meals and cool refreshments will be served
to you directly from the lodges kitchen we値l spoil you further with a humble
camping mattress places close to your fishing spot under the shade of a
sacred Ficus. The advantage of being located bang on the river is evident
as you are not wasting prime fishing time travelling. The 24 km of Exclusive
fishing beat that flows in the jurisdiction of the Corbett Tiger Reserve
is enough to give a very pleasant 3-7 days fishing, but first some vital
information on fishing season and best time.
Season and best time: Fishing season opens on September 15 till June 1.
As regards best time to fish mid September till mid November the onset of
winters here, in the cold season from mid November till about end of January
bites are far less. With the arrival of spring returns best fishing season
sometime from February and all the way till the monsoon arrives in June.
One must however keep in mind the Indian summers suited to only the hardy
angler who are rewarded by frequent catches.
Following is a sample itinerary followed by recommended extensions, angling
safari includes accommodation, all meals, bae-be-que in the evening, transport,
services of a gillie / guides and porters, all permits, almost everything
except alcoholic beverages.
ITINERARY
Day
01: Corbett National Park
Meals: breakfast in Tiger Camp, lunch & dinner in Riverine Woods
Connect overnight air-conditioned train the previous night from Old Delhi railway station at 2245 hours. Arrival at Ramnagar today at 0500 hours. You will be met at the station. Breakfast at Tiger Camp. Drive onward to Chimtakhal gate for a drive to Riverine Woods (the wildest lodge!) in a 4WD. Jeep safari through the stately dense Sal jungle and then along Ramganga River. The wildlife adventure of Corbett park begins. The safari is accompanied by an expert guide and is a great opportunity for viewing wildlife, especially the tiger in its natural habitat. Cross the river at Balluli Bridge for the Kanda Range, where Jim Corbett shot the famous Kanda man-eater. Arrive at the Riverine Woods. Lunch and relax a bit in the serene, lingering quietness of the jungle and capture the panoramic expanse on your camera. One can opt for Mahseer fishing as this stretch is one of the best for angling Golden Mahseer in the country.
Rest of the day one can opt for long walks for wildlife tracking and birding with a guide. Bar-be-que dinner and overnight stay in a cottage.
Day 02: Riverine Woods
After an early cup of tea we head downstream and ford across the Ramganga twice casting as we go. Today we値l be fishing in the Charidhunga Raw an A1 pool where numerous big catches close to 70 lb have been reported. Breakfast and refreshments can be served here if you wish. In the latter half of the day fish Gauchi Raw. Just along the bend is a dense patch of Jamun where Tiger pugmarks are often found. Evening by the fire, drinks and dinner.
Day 03: Riverine Woods
Today we fish the upstream beat at Marchula once the most popular fishing spot. This massive pool is home to massive Mahseer and Goonch two years back one of our guests had hooked a shocked Terrapin. Meals and a camping mattress will be provided. Later in the day we値l fish the pool below Baluli another promising pool. A short walk will get us back to Riverine Woods. Overnight stay.
Day 04: Riverine Woods
About 8 km downstream on the confluence of Ramgnaga and Mandal deep in the Corbett Tiger Reserve has always been a favourite with fishermen. Besides Mahseer, Indian Trout has been caught here. Twin wooden bridge is erected on the confluence after the monsoons usually by Christmas. If so we値l stay in the Lohachaur Forest Bungalow located deep in the woods above the Mandal. After a wholesome vegetarian meal we値l retire for the night at Lohachaur Bungalow.
Day 05: Riverine Woods
Full day fishing at Domunda. Large Mahseer are seen dashing upstream under the wooden bridge. Otters and fish eagles are regularly sighted here. During one of our earlier fishing trips after finding fresh drag mark and following it we stumbled upon a freshly killed Sambhar deer and a tigers roar. Bonus of fishing in tiger country.
Overnight at Lohachaur.
Day 06: Riverine Woods
Best for the last. Early start with packed meals, we値l get dropped at Jamun 3 km downstream of the lodge. We head upstream fishing as we go. A kilometre ahead we値l fish at Govind Row (our paradise pool). Larger Mahseer and the elusive Goonch abound in this great pool. We can have a little siesta in the sandy beach. And head upstream. Last evening is celebration regardless of the success of the trip. IT担 FISHING. Bonfire, B-B-Q and snacks of choice.
Retire to a night resounding with calls of denizens of the jungle.
Day 07: Corbett National Park
Meals: breakfast in Riverine Woods, lunch & dinner in Tiger Camp
Drive back to Tiger Camp at a slow pace, this is a wildlife safari in itself. Arrive at Tiger Camp for lunch. After lunch drive to the next / return destination in your own vehicle. OR you may opt for an elephant ride at Tiger Camp and you will have ample time to study the behaviour of this magnificent and intelligent mammal. After an early dinner, you will be transferred to Ramnagar railway station to connect overnight air-conditioned train at 2100 hours, arriving old Delhi railway station the next morning at 0500 hours.
